Driver issued fixed penalty after taxi ploughs through railings

A taxi driver in the capital has been issued a fixed penalty in relation to a traffic offence after they ploughed through railings.

The single vehicle incident happened on Forres Street in Edinburgh happened at around 12.10pm on Wednesday 22/05/2024.

No injuries were reported.

Local man Stephen Ramsay heard the accident and ran outside to see what had happened.

Pictures show the passenger window of the taxi smashed and the front of the vehicle embedded in the railings.

Stephen said: “A serious sounding and looking car crash in Edinburgh today, we heard a loud bang and looked outside to see what had happened.”

Police initially said they were in attendance for traffic management, but later issued a statement.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.10pm on Wednesday, 22 May, 2024 we were called a reports of a single vehicle crash on Forres Street, Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and there were no reports of injuries.

“The driver of the vehicle was issued with a fixed penalty notice in connection with the incident.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service confirmed their attendance.
