Lothian Buses are set to further expand their business operations later this year with additional services on offer.
We can reveal plans are at an advanced stage to revive their coach arm of the business that Edinburgh based firm operated until the early 2000s.
Edinburgh Bus and Coach Limited, a 27 year old dormant company was renamed to Lothian Coaches Limited in November last year.
An application has been made with the traffic commissioner for an operators license, and permission to store up to 180 vehicles across Lothians four depots at Annandale Street, Seafield Road East and Longstone naming Richard John Hall as director.
Initially, five, brand new 14 metre Plaxton Panther III / Volvo B11R have been ordered from Plaxton and have been built at their Scarborough factory.
The new coaches are metallic black with 2” gold and white stripes along the lower panels all round, chrome windows, body and wheel trims with gold hubs.
A spokesperson for Lothian Buses said: “We keep our businesses operations under continual review. If there is any change to our services we will announce these publicly at the appropriate time.”
In February we revealed that Lothian Buses had acquired fifty ex London Wright bus ‘Eclipse Gemini 2’ Double Deckers.
The initial refurbished buses have had the central door removed, new flooring and seating, WIFI and USB power outlets fitted and finished off with personalised registration plates ‘LXZ 5***’ to hide the past life of the 2012 registered vehicles in London.
Fifty personalised plates are to cost the firm £16,500 and will bring the number of private plates within the fleet to 74 with the other plates at an unknown cost.
Previously seven, 2005 buses were bought from Arriva Kent and later fitted with ‘RIG 6***’ plates for use with East Coast Buses.
