Forth Road Bridge: 56-year-old man charged with dangerous driving

A 56-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving after a lorry overturned on the Forth Road Bridge.

The incident happened around 2.50pm on Tuesday 14th March.

The bridge was closed for three and a half hours as recovery workers battled 60mph winds to recover the lorry and was reopened to all vehicles at 6.19pm.

Warning signs were in place prohibiting high-sided vehicles from crossing the bridge due to high winds.

A police spokesperson said: “A man has been charged with dangerous driving after a lorry overturned on the Forth Road Bridge on Tuesday 14th March.

“As a result of this incident, the bridge was closed in both directions for around three and a half hours until the vehicle was safely recovered.

“The 56-year-old is scheduled to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday 15th March.”
