An Edinburgh resident has raised concerns after claiming they bought a bottle of vodka from a Granton shop that tasted unusual.

The warning was shared on an Edinburgh Reddit forum on Wednesday afternoon. The user alleged the alcohol had been purchased from Sirocco Food & Wine on West Granton Road.
In the post, they wrote: “Dodgy Glen’s vodka from Sirocco in Granton. Had a glass after chips, thought it tasted rotten because of the chips before we spotted the off centre label and no engraving under the back label.
“Smells like paint stripper.”
The user claimed the label appeared misaligned and that expected engraving beneath the rear label was missing, leading them to question whether the bottle was genuine.

Other forum users were quick to respond. Some urged the poster to stop drinking the vodka immediately and seek medical advice if they felt unwell.
Several suggested reporting the matter to Trading Standards or the council’s food safety team so it could be investigated properly.
Others speculated that the bottle may have been counterfeit or tampered with.
At this stage there is no suggestion of an official investigation and no public health alert has been issued.

The claims remain unverified and are based on a single online post. The shop has been approached for comment.
Food safety experts advise that if alcohol smells or tastes unusual, it should not be consumed. Customers concerned about a product can report it to City of Edinburgh Council’s food safety team or Trading Standards for assessment.
There is currently no confirmation of any wider issue, but the post has prompted discussion among local residents.
