An unlucky motorist has had a shunt on the first anniversary of becoming one of the fastest-ever driving test fails in the UK.
Craig Barazza hit the headlines on February 2 last year for failing his test within five seconds – by driving on the wrong side of the road.
The 34-year-old Scot today revealed that he had hit a car at a roundabout after having a sneezing fit.
Craig, who currently lives in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, has now vowed to stay off the roads on this date – which also happens to be Groundhog Day in the US and Canada.
Revealing his blunder today on Facebook, Craig, originally from Portlethen, Aberdeenshire, said: “The second of February is clearly becoming a troublesome day of the year for me in terms of driving.
“So I’ve driven fantastically well since passing my test. Other than the basic issues of learning the hard way of what happens when you leave your lights on etc, it’s been pretty plain sailing so far.”
He went on: “Driving to work today. The same route I’ve done for five to six months. Sitting behind a car at the roundabout. Both stationary, but creeping forward.
“I decide then, for the first time in ten plus years, to have a sneezing fit. I then hear a bang, and I’ve rolled into the car on front of me.”
Thankfully for Craig, there was no obvious damage and both drivers were on the way shortly afterwards.
He added: “Arrive to work to see my Facebook ‘on this day’ just happens to be a year to the day where I famously failed my driving test within a couple of seconds.
“Going forth I plan to take the day off on the second of February, and never leave my house on this day. The b****** driving Gods clearly have some beef with me.”
Craig, a wind farm worker, currently based in East Anglia, revealed last year how he had spent in the region of £1,000 on 40 driving lessons.
Speaking about his spectaculaar fail at the time, Craig said: “I was only just leaving the centre to get out. We were literally just five seconds into it.
“I was approaching the junction to exit it and I had an absolute mind blank, questioning in my head: ‘What side of the road do we drive on’?”
After rearranging another driving test Craig did manage to pass his test weeks later.
