Shocking footage shows the moment a cyclist was viciously assualted by another cyclist

SHOCKING footage shows the moment a cyclist was viciously assaulted as the country remained in lock down except for all but essential travel.

It is understood an earlier altercation caught the attention of Osman Bajwa on Saturday May 9, as he was a passenger in a Private Hire Car on Chesser Avenue in the capital.

Cycling campaigners have urged the man to come forward in order for Police to identify and prosecute the Edinburgh teenager for the unwarranted act before he gets behind the wheel of a car later in life.

As the clip begins there are two teenagers riding hired Just Eat bikes. The first wearing a blue hoodie cycling faster cuts up a motorist as he approaches the traffic lights, he then jumps off to continue his argument with the mature cyclist wearing shorts, a red jacket and yellow helmet.

Osman then films through his open window, however despite the conversation being unclear, it is believed he was giving the young man some words of wisdom with regard to cycling etiquette – the second teenager then arrives.

The debate is still continuing as the lights change to green, although neither men notice and are alerted to this by a disgruntled motorist who was beeping his horn.

They cycle off and then seconds later the teenager kicks the man in the leg causing him to lose balance and fall sideways. His light falls off his helmet as his head hits the road, luckily the driver of the car managed to stop and avoid hitting him.

Amazingly he immediately jumps back up and looks on with hands on hips at the young men in the distance then turning round towards the car he smiled and gave a thumbs up.

“I record, I record” said Osman as the unidentified man walks towards him and the clip then ends.

Speaking today Spokes Cycling Campaigner, Prof Chris Oliver said: “Looks and sounds like the cyclist in red was trying to give helpful advice.

“However, the action by the cyclist in blue kicking the cyclists in reds bike is uncalled for and is an assault. I hope the cyclist can prosecute for this unwarranted vicious act. The teenager in blue should get prosecuted by the police – that’s if he can be identified and found.

“Cyclist to cyclist ‘bike rage’ is very uncommon and is related to other explosive outbursts of anger such as road rage. With such a young person committing this act of violence, one wonders if he will later go onto to car road rage later in life.”

Police Scotland advised that they don’t have any record of this incident being reported to them.
