DRAMATIC FOOTAGE shows the moment a driver turned out of a petrol station without looking and drove head-on into oncoming vehicle writing it off.

The incident happened on Wednesday December 29 at 2.30pm on Altrincham Road in Wythenshawe, South Manchester.

Dashcam footage has been shared online after the driver of the Nissan Patrol admitted liability and was no longer required by insurance company.

Jeanette Hewitt was driving home after picking her son up at the airport, and was about to take the right hand lane to drive onto Moor Road.

As she approaches the Shell petrol station on her left, the driver of the 4×4 is positioned to join the left hand lane to head Westbound, however without warning he drove out at speed and made a prohibited turned right.

Seconds later he collided with her Audi A1 on the passenger side, causing extensive damage to bodywork and the chassis that could not be repaired.

The force of the impact deployed the airbags and spun the car around, no one was seriously injured however Jeanette has suffered bruising to her ribs, and her son has bruising caused by the seat belt.

Jeanette is superstitious and believes it was bad luck having a ’13’ plate car as this was the second driver to hit her in the past two years.

Sharing the clip online she wrote: “Driving my son home from work and the unthinkable happens, I had no time to break it was scary.”

Celine commented: “Alty Road… used to live on that road for years, it’s awful!

“Glad your son was okay!”

Lisa White said: “That scared the crap out of me.”

Alan Morris added: “You done nothing wrong but driver from left needs to take bus from now on.”

Speaking today Jeanette, 57 said: “I was driving my son home from work at the airport I was in the inner lane ready to turn right when a 4×4 flew out of the petrol station and smacked right into the the passenger side.

“I had no time to brake, the driver admitted liability saying he just drove out after he looked left but not right.

“When the airbag went off and left off the powder I had a panic attack as I thought the car was on fire.

“The car spun right round facing the other way, we were lucky it didn’t roll – I’ve still got sore ribs and my son has got seatbelt injuries too.”

Greater Manchester Police attended the incident however have advised they would only respond if the RTC was referred to their Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

Jeanette is now back on the road after buying a new car – needless to say she made sure it wasn’t a ’13’ plate this time around.
