DASHCAM FOOTAGE shows an apparent hit and run after a fast food delivery driver crashes his scooter into car after taking short cut through road works.

The crash happened on Ring Road A665 at junction with Cross Keys Street in Central Manchester on November 2 at 3.12pm.

As the clip begins the dash cam car is stationary in queueing traffic, one lane is coned off for adjacent building works and a driver of a black Mercedes CLA Class joins the queue.

Moments later the scooter rider appearing to be wearing a Deliveroo jacket comes into view, and as soon as there is an opening in the cones he takes a short cut through the prohibited area.

The driver of the car is indicating to turn left and braking approximately three seconds before impact, his intentions should have been visible to the rider but despite this he crashes into the passenger side door.

Amazingly he doesn’t seem to be injured and manages to keep the scooter upright.

The full extent of the damage to the £30,000 car is unknown, but it appears the wing mirror has been knocked in.

The Mercedes driver put his hazards on and after a brief discussion through the passenger window he drives his car into side road.

The driver of the camera car proceeds to continue his journey, however seconds later the delivery driver reappears in his his rear view mirror, he immediately uses his car to block the scooter.

A brief discussion follows and he thought he had persuaded him to go back and exchange details, however the scooter disappears the wrong way up the one-way street.

Speaking today Tony Naylor said: “After I saw the both drivers and share words, I drove past only to notice in my rear view mirror the rider of the scooter riding off behind me.

“I just block him enough on the offside to tell him to go back and share details, he turns back but then disappears into the distance – unfortunately this is not caught on camera.

“After I downloaded the footage the next day I called 101 and offered a copy to the Police but the incident hadn’t been reported.”

Tony later shared the clip on social media, it has been viewed over 6,500 times and attracted 100 comments.

Only a handful of viewers blamed the driver of the Mercedes and the majority agreed that the scooter rider was at fault.

Marty Toal commented: “The car cut him up fact!

“If you change direction it up to you to make sure it’s safe to do so, however the bike rider should be riding defensively if he intends to stay alive.”

Glen Scott wrote: “I find it hard to blame the Merc driver for this incident. Even if they did check their mirrors before turning it may have been difficult or impossible to see the scooter coming up on the inside.

“The scooter rider is also in control of a moving vehicle too and everyone in control of a vehicle should give enough room to stop themselves hitting the vehicle in front.

“Very poor driving standards and terrible situational awareness from the person on the scooter.”

Scott Smith said: “If I was driving the car I would have checked mirrors for obvious obstructions. Is there a bike immediately to my left (by the side of the car) and if there are any pedestrians.

“That coned area is essentially the same as a path. Would you be constantly checking a path for a bike riding down it?

“Why would you because it’s illegal. When you know nothing is beside the car on the useable road your not going to constantly check for bikes inside the cones are you.”

Den Westhead added: “As a biker myself I have to say absolutely bikes fault, idiots like this is why car drivers think we are all that stupid!”

Greater Manchester Police could not find any record of the incident being reported to them, however they confirmed Mr Naylor had called 101.

Deliveroo have been contacted for comment.
