Fire Fighters are tackling blaze at flat on Leven Street in capital

FIRE fighters are tackling a blaze at a top floor flat in Edinburgh city centre.

Four appliances attended the scene shortly before 3pm and cornered off the pavement outside the Tuk Tuk restaurant below the property.

Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus were seen entering the stairwell.

The unnamed occupant a 26-year-old woman revealed that it was a fire in her kitchen.

Speaking to our reporter she said: “I’m a terrible at cooking”

It’s also understood that she refused treatment by paramedics.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.46pm on Wednesday, May 26 to reports of a fire at a property at Leven Street, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances and one aerial rescue pump and firefighters extinguished a fire within a top floor flat of a three-storey building.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe and there are no reported casualties.”
