Shocking dash cam footage shows the moment a First Bus driver doesn’t stop after hitting a parked lorry twice losing parts of the bus in the process.
The incident happened on Friday July 8 at 11:33am on Dereham Road in South of Norwich.
The clip begins the bus driver is slowly trying to squeeze past a parked lorry being unloaded at a narrow part of the road.
As the rear of the bus is level with the tailgate on the lorry, the first collision can be heard – at the time the driver is also in the back of the vehicle.
He comes out of the truck to investigate, and upon quick evaluation he appears goes to speak to the bus driver and then beckons the dash cam driver to reverse.
Upon reversing the driver steers towards the lorry and this is when the second collision occurs, breaking the CCTV camera off the side of the bus and it lands on the tailgate before rolling onto the road.
At this point a second worker comes into view in a yellow vest, and the decision is made to lift the tailgate and drive the lorry onto the pavement.
The bus driver drives off any doesn’t even stop to inspect the damage or retrieve parts, the door of the lorry is visible damaged.
Chris Speed, Head of operations at First Eastern Counties said: “One of our buses was involved in a minor collision with a parked lorry on a narrow part of Dereham Road at the weekend.
“There was slight damage to our bus and no damage sustained to the lorry, the incident has been reported internally and to confirm, there were no injuries to any travelling passengers or to the drivers.”
Dash cam driver Dan Watson shared the footage online and it has since been viewed over 2,000 times.
Speaking today Dan, 32 said: “This bus driver isn’t having a good day, he didn’t stop and just carried on.”
He added: “There was definitely damage the lorry was scraped all down the side.”
One user commented: “Ok for starters the truck shouldn’t even be parked there its double yellow lines.
“I feel sorry for the bus driver he was just trying to get past to do his job he shouldn’t have to wait for some numpty head to leave.
“The bus driver should have told the truck driver to move instead of trying to push past.”
A second replied: “Different rules applies depending on the vehicle you’re driving, no stopping or parking applies to cars, commercial vehicles like trucks unloading have up to 40 minutes on a double yellow.
“Having said that I have driven buses and drive trucks, the truck driver should’ve parked on the pavement and unloaded quickly before getting a ticket for being up on the kerb, however that bus driver should’ve known better than to drive through there – poor judgement.
A third wrote: “I work for Waitrose and we can unload anywhere we like at any time of the day and even allowed to block any road at any point.”
A spokeswoman for Norfolk Constabulary said: “I’ve looked on our system and can’t see any RTC that matches your description.”
