Gumball 3000 rally 93-year-old Ford Model A crashed in capital

Footage shows the moment a 93-year-old Ford Model A is crashed on day one of the Gumball 3000 rally in the capital.

The painful to watch incident happened on North Castle Street in Edinburgh at around 3.15pm on Saturday June 10.

Crowds of fans that had been admiring the yellow 1930 classic moments earlier, rushed to inspect the damage after the vehicle is involved in a collision with a red Ford Fiesta.

The driver of the Model A appears to accelerate sharply in the 20 mph zone the speed is misjudged by the Fiesta driver who turns into across his path to park.

Car enthusiasts look on as the uninjured driver climbs out of the vehicle and clearly indicates his disgust towards the driver of the Fiesta after looking at the damage.

Fortunately the Model A appears to have come off better with just a bent bumper, however the Fiesta has extensive panel damage and the impact has forced open the fuel flap.

It seems likely after checks for structural damage the classic will be repaired and the car 79 years younger may be written off.

One user commented: “Yellow cab is guilty as always.”

Another replied: “Wrong in so many ways, The Fiesta cut across in front of the Ford Model A hot rod – Fiesta is to blame.”

A third said: “Bro did you not see him put his foot down and floor it?”

A fourth added: “If he had ‘floored it’ the back wheels would have broken loose and there would be plumes of tyre smoke.

“The Fiesta clearly cut across the lane when there was other traffic coming towards him – don’t confuse the noise of the V8 with speed.”

Police Scotland were unable to find any record of the incident reported to them.

The 24th Annual Gumball 300 rally began in Edinburgh on June 10, then visited London, Amsterdam, Venice, Budapest and ended in Porto Montenegro on June 16.
