BREATHTAKING footage shows the moment a HGV is driven on the wrong side of the road narrowly avoiding head-on collision with car by inches.

The hair-raising incident happened last month on the B3227 near Atherington in North Devon on June 17 at 10.11am.

Carl Rowberry was behind the wheel of the dash cam car, and the clip begins as he approaches a bend on the country road.

Moments before the left-hand bend a HGV comes into view on the wrong side of the road and swerves at the last moment avoiding the stationary camera car by inches.

The rear view camera view shows the wheels of the vehicle still on the wrong side of the road after passing the vehicle indicating how close a collision was.

Registered in Slovakia the vehicle is operated by ADMK and on their website they specifically state that they are ‘focused on transport from the EU to the UK’ and have been ‘engaged in transport since 1992’.

Carl later shared the clip online and has since been viewed 25,000 times and attracted hundreds of comments, likes and shares.

One user commented: “Confused European driver on a quiet road, see quite a few Brits and Irish do exactly the same on quiet European roads whenever we’re over there.”

Another said: “Could have been a fatality with a couple of seconds difference on that bend – very lucky escape.”

A third wrote: “Came into this expecting to find a big lorry slightly over the white line because it’s a narrow road, was not expecting it to just be casually driving at you like that.”

A fourth added: “Hope you wore your brown pants today!”

Speaking today, Carl, 33, a factory worker from Umberleigh said: “I was driving around a corner coming up a hill and then noticed on the next corner there was a lorry coming at me at approx. 55 miles an hour on my side of the road.

“I couldn’t see any reason for him to be on my side of the road and he did not notice me for about 2 to 3 seconds as you can see he suddenly turn to his left.

“The video does not do it justice for how close he was, it was inches away from hitting me as you can see on video he was still over the white line after getting to the back of my car.”

ADMK based declined to comment on the footage.
