A pensioner has had his driving license taken off him after he drove the wrong way on one of Britain’s busiest motorways.
Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group were alerted to the white Nissan being driven the wrong way on the M6 Toll and brought the car to a stop.
It was established the elderly man did not intend to endanger other road users, however the decision was made to revoke his driving license and recover the vehicle.

Wendy Russell, the driver of the dash cam vehicle and later shared the footage online.
She wrote: “No words needed, M6 Toll.”
The clip has been viewed 1000s of times and attracted comments on social media.

One user commented: “That’s one way to avoid the toll booths I guess!”
Another wrote: “Wait! And he did not get hit? How? There are no smart gantries with sensors and cameras to slow the traffic, and warn everyone there is a clown on the loose!”
A third added: “Someone didn’t want to pay the toll, seen that a few times on here.”

A Spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “Our colleagues from the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) were made aware just before 7pm on Thursday (2 May) that a white Nissan was seen going the wrong way on the toll road in the Weeford area of Lichfield.
“A short time later, officers brought the car to a stop.
“The driver of the car, a man in his 70s, was checked over at the scene and spoken to by officers about what happened.

“Whilst there was no intent to endanger other road users and drive on the wrong side of the road, the man’s licence was revoked.
“The car has been recovered.”
The Central Motorway Group are responsible for policing the M5, M6, M6 Toll, M54, the Aston Expressway, the M42 and the A500.

M6 Toll is a privately-funded motorway opened in 2003 carrying over 50,000 vehicles a year – its operators claim to save motorists 41% on their journey time through the West Midlands.
