An injured seal pup rescued from a north-east beach was allegedly kicked and hit with stones, has been euthanised after its injuries were deemed too severe by vets.
The animal was discovered on Stonehaven beach in Aberdeenshire on Tuesday (13/08/2024) morning at around 9am.
Reports locally suggest children were seen taking selfies, kicking and throwing stones at the stricken seal.
It is understood BDMLR (British Divers Marine Life Rescue) rescued the seal after SSPCA (Scottish Society for Protection of Cruelty to Animals) were unable too attend.
Eyewitness Dodie B said: “The reason I rang (BDMLR) was that stupid people were trying to get a selfie with it and kids were throwing stones.
“An older lady on a walker was doing her best to keep people away!
“Being in such a busy place it needed moving!”
A spokesperson for BDMLR said: “We are unable to say if the blood on the animal was caused by abuse.”

The incident was later reported to Police after it was discovered the pup had been assaulted.
Distressing images obtained SWD Media show the bloodied mouth of the seal and him later lying in a cage with serious injuries.
Despite the efforts of the rescue team, the decision was made euthanise the seal after vets decided the animals injuries were too severe and was suffering as a result.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.40pm on Tuesday, 13 August, we received a report of an injured seal at Stonehaven beach.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
