Officers from the National Motorcycle Unit stopped the vehicle driven by a 82 year-old woman on Salamander Street on Wednesday at around 4.30pm.

The vehicle was taken off the road and prohibited from use.

Sharing the image of the tyre, which appears to have actually been the vehicles spare wheel, officers wrote: “It should be clear to any driver that using a vehicle in this condition places both the driver and other road users in danger.”

Due to the condition of the tyre many suggested Police were attempting an April fool in September.

One user commented: “No way! It’s not 1st April is it!! What a loon!”

Another wrote: “Police Scotland’s attempt at a joke?”

A third said: “Is this for real?”

A fourth added: “How is that even possible? Wow!”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.30pm on Wednesday, 18 September, 2024 officers stopped a car in Salamander Street, Edinburgh.

“The driver, a 82-year-old woman was issued with a fixed penalty notice in connection with a road traffic offence.”
