DRAMATIC FOOTAGE shows the moment a response paramedic on 999 call loses control in icy conditions and collides with another vehicle.
The incident happened on Sunday morning (24/01/21) at 11.25am at the blue ribbon roundabout on the B4113 in Coventry, West Midlands.
As the clip begins the siren of the emergency vehicle can be heard and moments later it comes into view and collides with the rear corner of a BMW.
The force of the impact cleared the excess snow from the car that the driver hadn’t removed, as well as bits of bodywork.
An AA breakdown vehicle was passing as the drivers moved off to the side of the road but unfortunately they don’t provide accident recovery.
Neither drivers required hospital treatment and West Midlands Police were unable find any record of the incident being reported to them.
The driver of the dash cam vehicle car initially uploaded the footage to social media but later decided to remain anonymous after the clip went viral and attracted hundreds of comments.
Charlotte Mason commented: “It’s an ambulance going to an emergency, these things happen and it doesn’t help when they are under so much pressure due to the current situation.
“That driver saves numerous lives and puts his own at risk while doing so.”
Pete Stubbs wrote: “ Probably lost control on ice and snow rushing as an advanced driver to help someone, so before you judge as Sunday drivers lets hope both parties are ok.”
Paul Ford said: “The thing is, what had happened out of the camera view?
“Was probably trying to pass another motorist making it difficult.”
Conell Ritchie added: “The quality of driving around Foleshill is bad enough as it is.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Unfortunately, whilst responding to an incident in snowy conditions, one of our response vehicles was involved in a collision with a car as it approached a roundabout at the junction of the A444 and B4113 in Coventry yesterday morning.
“An ambulance responded to the scene but after an assessment neither of the drivers involved required hospital treatment.
“The Trust will investigate the circumstances of what happened.”
