Shocking footage has emerged showing a van driver bullying a learner driver who was actually taking her test at the time.

Dash cam footage taken from the instructor vehicle used for the practical examination, shows the incident on Lanark Road West in Edinburgh on Monday morning.

The man driving a CEF (City Electrical Factors) liveried van, seemed to be in a hurry and frustrated that he had no choice but keep to the speed limit.

He first tries to intimidate the female learner driver by tailgating the clearly marked driving school vehicle.

But he later starts shouting, waving his hands, revving and sounding his horn in disgust when the woman correctly gives way to oncoming traffic.

The driving examiner reportedly told the test candidate: “Ignore the man in the van, he is completely in the wrong.”

Angus MacDougall owner of Angus Driving School said: “I was really upset when I saw the footage, but also extremely proud of the student who still passed her test, even though this type of dangerous behaviour going on behind her.”

Ian Thorn, CEF Fleet Operations said: “Thank you for reporting this incident to us – we take such matters and reports very seriously.

“First of all I log your complaint here against the CEF Branch concerned to check for any other reports and for future reference.

“I will then escalate to the Director concerned for Scotland and our H&S department. The drivers manager will be informed and the driver formally interviewed – once again the drivers record will be checked.

“We do really try and keep our drivers and other road users safe. The drivers themselves are constantly having Licence checks via DVLA. They are risked assessed, training is given, the vehicles are safety checked constantly and have extra safety features fitted such as limiters, sensors and audible alarms.

“Our drivers are our ambassadors and should always drive with that in mind-its not as if you can miss the name!”

He added: “Such evidence is vital in re-enforcing the safe driving message, you are performing a very useful role.”
