A SPEED CAMERA van has crashed into a residents hedge after being rear ended by a maintenance vehicle whilst pulling onto verge to setup.
The incident happened on Friday morning (August 15) at 8.50am on Boston Road in Horncastle, Lincolnshire.
It’s understood that no one was injured in the collision that immobilised the Lincolnshire Safety Partnership vehicle, however it still done its job as rubber neck motorists slowly drove past the crash scene.
Darren Trapmore shared footage online showing the immediate aftermath of the crash with commentary.
The clip has since been viewed over 100,000 times, attracted hundreds of likes, comments and has been shared over 1,000 times.
Darren, 36 said: “Here we go, coming up Boston Road in Horncastle.
“You’ll not get caught speeding today, cos someone has shunted him in the hedge.”
Many commenters thought the predicament both drivers found themselves in was funny.
Paul Wilkinson commented: “I saw that on the way to work set me up for the rest of the day.”
Stewart Garner-Jones wrote: “Apparently the pickup van driver didn’t see the brightly striped and painted camera van stopping to park on the grass.”
Adam Reavill Said: “Really shouldn’t laugh, but I bet someone has some explaining to do.”
Christine Gardiner added: “We’ll if you didn’t speed there would not be any need for the van to catch you out.”
Horncastle and Wragby, PCSO Nigel Wass posted on Nextdoor, the neighbourhood hub. He wrote: “Hello – you may have seen a Police Road Safety Van earlier in a hedge on Boston Road in Horncastle.
“The van had slowed down on Boston Road when it was hit in the rear by another vehicle ending up in the hedge.
“Both drivers were OK, and we are now investigating how the incident happened.”
Speed sign data released by Horncastle Town Council show that last year (2019) over a 33 day period; 99,762 vehicles were logged on Boston Road, whilst the average speed detected was 27.18mph, 31,250 were above the 30mph limit, with the highest recorded speed of 69mph.
