HEART-STOPPING footage shows the moment a driver of a white van loses control narrowly missing dash cam car and nearby houses in small village.

The incident happened on Sunday (19/09/2021) at around 7pm in Stebbing, Dunmow in North Essex.

Conor Smith was travelling home with his brother on Brik Kiln Lane when they approached the junction with the B1057 opposite Post Office Cottages as the drama unfolded.

At that moment a white Ford Transit Courier van comes into view at speed, the driver loses control of the vehicle on the wet road as it drifts across the junction turning a full circle.

Amazingly the van didn’t hit anything and as it came to a stop the driver laughed with his passenger before driving off.

Mr Smith shared the clip online and wrote: “Oops!”

It has been viewed over 9,000 times and attracted over 300 reactions, comments and shares.

One user commented: “Nowt wrong with that, it’s only someone practising their handbrake turn.”

Another wrote: “He misunderstood what the sat-nav meant by sharp right turn.”

A third said: “It gets better the more you watch it!”

A fourth added: “New underpants all round.”

Speaking today Firefighter, Conor, 29 said: “As I approached the junction the van driver was either going too fast, or decided to try a handbrake turn and lost control.

“The van only narrowly missed my car and another approaching from the right, it is a very narrow piece of road and he was very lucky not to hit us or the houses.

“He didn’t stop, just laughed with his passenger and drove off – sorry for the bad language.”

In a separate incident, Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman died, after being struck by a MG ZS car on Chelmer Drive in nearby Great Dunmow at around 4pm on Friday (17/09/2021).

Despite the efforts of emergency services the woman died at the scene, Police say a 77-year-old man is helping them with their enquires.
