FESTIVE drink drive campaigns are due to be launched in the coming weeks and we were given the opportunity to review the Alcosense Pro breathalyser.

Police Scotland are launching their Festive Drink and Drug Drive Campaign on December 1st and will run until the new year.

It is estimated over half of drivers getting behind the wheel the morning after do not realise they are over the limit.

Out of the box the Alcosense Pro takes minutes to set up and is preconfigured with all UK, Irish and most European and Worldwide limits – also included is 3x AAA batteries, 5 x mouth pieces and a USB cable for updating the device.

The device also boasts ‘Pro Accuracy’ given the fuel cell is a 121mm2 version of the same sensor used by UK Police forces, but has a lower tolerance level meaning the breathalyser will read a little on the safe side – and is twice as accurate as its predecessor.

Visual prompts include BlowCoach that shows you in real time how you are blowing, so its easy to get right every time to provide clear results.

Results with a Green background indicates no alcohol present, an Orange background indicates alcohol present but under the limit, and Red indicates over the limit and an estimated time until sober is provided.

Given the alternatives such as loss of life, a criminal record and prison, the breathalyser is a bargain at only £149.99 – and in our opinion should be owned by every motorist who consumes alcohol.

Calibration of the device is required every 12 months at a cost of £29.99 to ensure the accuracy of readings, and packs of 25 mouth pieces are just £9.99.

Overall this is an excellent piece of kit that we give 9/10, however if we had to find a fault it would have be that the unit isn’t rechargeable despite already having a USB port to perform software updates via PC.

Congratulations!

The competition closes on Saturday 27th November 11:59pm and one lucky winner will be announced the following day.

Following the end of the competition up to 100* lucky runners up will be able to receive £25.00 discount on the purchase of an Alcosense Pro Breathalyser using discount code SWD25.

*Discount is limited to the first 100 people to claim the discount code within 14 days after the competition ends (28th November – 11th December).
