The disgusting discovery was made at Asda Chesser Superstore in Edinburgh on Saturday (31/12/2022).

One bird had the use by date 14 Dec, and another 26 Dec.

The packaging advises customers to ‘Buy Now, and Freeze for Christmas’ – however these ones have been frozen in store – but its not known if this was done before or after the use by dates.

Both are still on sale for full price and haven’t even been reduced to encourage a quick sale.

Last week furious shoppers slammed supermarkets after discovering their Turkeys were rotten when removing from the packaging to roast for Christmas Day.

According to the Food Standards Agency website: “You should never eat food after the use-by date, even if it looks and smells ok, as it could make you very ill.

“You can cook and eat food until midnight on the use-by date shown on a product, but not after. You will see use-by dates on food that goes off quickly, such as meat products or ready-to-eat salads.”

An Asda spokesperson said: “We have strict processes in place to ensure that all of our products are regularly checked for date coding.

“Whilst we haven’t received any other complaints about out-of-date turkeys at our Chesser store, we are looking into what could have happened on this occasion.”
