Council contractors make gaffe resurfacing road around parked car

Bungling council contractors have made a gaffe and resurfaced a road around a parked car club vehicle leaving surface unfinished – not for the first time.

A image of the black Enterprise Hyundai on Craighouse Gardens, Edinburgh was shared online on Thursday (22/06/2023) afternoon after the workers had apparently finished and left.

It is understood that this isn’t the first time works have been left unfinished with parking bays on Morningside Drive and Churchill with ‘the odd weird car shape (unsurfaced) spot’.

Residents received letters from the council several weeks ago and notices were placed on vehicles, but it seems there was a break down in communication with the Car Club operators.

Despite the road works lasting 3 days, it seems no one thought to have the car removed, despite council contractors NSL being pictured moving other vehicles on the same street.

The road was resurfaced using micro-asphalt that does not require the old surface to be removed, two layers are usually applied on the same day to a thickness of approximately 14mm, and the layers typically take between 15 and 30 mins to dry.

The resident who wishes to remain anonymous wrote: “Looks like they missed a bit during the resurfacing works at Craighouse Gardens.”

One user suggested: “They’ll more than likely remove that car to another spot and resurface it then.”

The resident replied: “I’d like to think so, but they removed other cars and left that one. Also, they seem to be gone and traffic’s back to normal.”

A second commented: “They may just leave that bit as they did in places on Morningside Drive – just a parking bay I suppose.”

A third said: “Think you are right but it’s so shoddy and the council planning folk wouldn’t let householders away with that.”

A fourth added: “This is the worst micro surfacing technique ever, I doubt it will even last a year.”
